Cave

My role: Digital compositor

What's about? This shot was filmed by me in the wonderful city of Matera, inside a cave. The purpose was to have a exaustive shot with different techniques required. First a clean up of the place (barbarically ruined) to remove tags and graffiti.
Then a 2D element, relight, CG integration, green screen and ambient was added.

Made with: Nuke, maya

What did I do? The first step was the camera tracking. This was very tricky because no markers were used on the place and a lot of motion blur (due to the low illumination) made tracking very difficult. Many of the trackers were made as usertracker to be sure everything was right.
After that, the walls were cleaned from the graffiti with a reprojection of the walls after paint them.
In the dark cave it's been inserted a firecamp: the rocks are 3D made and the fire is a 2D element. All the cave had to be relighted by the fire using different lights in Nuke 3D environment matching the fire movements with some expressions.
The skeleton was made in maya and integrated with multipass.
The soldier is a green screen plate projected on a card in the nuke 3D environment and filled with grading, shadows and relight.
At the end the mist and ambient was added in nuke 3D environment, toghether with the laser, made by a 3D cylinder following the movements of the gun.

What techniques did I use?
